Synopsis
With the spectre of exponential AI and threats to cybersecurity looming so large, tech risks becoming just more “stuff” unless we make people care about it, and create products, services and cultures rooted in human truths and emotions.
Storytelling is universal, emotional and rooted in our essential humanity: it can translate the abstract into the personal, connect the universal to the particular and turn a drain into a radiator.
As well as storytelling, Tas will explore the importance of Behavioural Economics- the importance of emotions in any decision – and why storytelling remains the best way of identifying and amplifying emotions to change behaviour.
He will explain why we need to tell better stories and how, by sharing top tips from his books, including the best-selling The Storytelling Book.
So, expect to hear about Attention Spam (sic), The Golden Thread, why form frames content and “TBU”.
He also promises references to “Inside Out” and “Squid Game”.

Synopsis
Detective Chief Inspector David Birrell and Detective Superintendent Nathan Munson MBE will represent the Metropolitan Police Service’s Cyber Crime Unit, bringing with them invaluable frontline perspectives on the evolving landscape of cybersecurity threats. With extensive experience in tackling sophisticated cybercrime operations, David and Nathan will share critical insights into the latest trends, the tactical responses of law enforcement, and actionable strategies to enhance organisational cyber resilience. Their presentation will focus on the increasing industrialisation of fraud and cybercrime, a troubling trend driven by the widespread availability of online criminal enablers that lower the barrier to entry for malicious actors. A key case study in their session will be Operation Stargrew - an extensive investigation into Labhost, a “Phishing-as-a-Service” platform that enabled large-scale credential theft. This operation offers a rare, behind-the-scenes look at how such criminal infrastructures are built, marketed, and monetised, and how coordinated efforts between law enforcement and industry partners are essential to dismantle them. Through this case, attendees will gain a deeper understanding of the threat landscape and practical lessons for defending against similar cyber-enabled fraud schemes.

In 2017 he ran the Met Police Extradition unit and has represented the Met overseas on numerous occasions including leading delegations to Bermuda, Bahrain and Canada. He was attached to the National Police Chiefs’ Council in the run up to EU Exit and was instrumental in assessing the impact of the loss of EU tools for Policing and delivering national solutions to these. One of these was the creation of the National Extradition Unit in 2020 as a result of which fugitives located in the UK rose by 38%.
In 2022 he joined the Met Police Cyber unit and has overseen investigations into some of the most pernicious online enablers of crime including iSpoof and the subject of this presentation, Labhost.
