Biography

Simon Greenman, co-founder of early internet AI brand MapQuest, has 25 years of AI and digital innovation expertise. A partner at Best Practice AI, he advises on AI strategy, technology, and governance. He was instrumental in the World Economic Forum's Global AI Council, championing global safe AI adoption. With over a decade as Chief Digital Officer driving digital transformations, he has worked for brands such as HomeAdvisor Europe, Accenture, Bowers & Wilkins, and AOL. A stalwart in the UK's start-up ecosystem, he is President Emeritus of the UK Harvard Business School Alumni Angels. Simon holds an MBA from Harvard and a BA in Computing and AI from Sussex University.

The Generative AI (GenAI) gold rush is in full swing. GenAI is now creating words, images, audio, code, and analysis that is often indistinguishable from humans.  But who will profit and benefit?  Will BigTech simply control the infrastructure “picks and shovels” of this gold rush?  Will open source compete with closed Foundational Models from BigTech? Which of the thousands of startups building unlimited application of GenAI will hit pay dirt? The rush promises to reshape industries and jobs. Yet as with any gold rush, risks abound.  How will society address the potential harms of this technology?  And which countries will emerge as the top prospectors?
